Aqsa Altaf was raised in Kuwait by Muslim, Pakistani and Sri Lankan parents who were migrant workers. She immigrated to the US in 2013.   

Aqsa wrote and directed "American Eid" for Disney's Launchpad series, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and is currently streaming on Disney+. Her short film Heat was developed by Amazon Studios as a TV show, while her short film Awayy premiered at SXSW and is now being produced into a feature film by Anonymous Content. Her other feature project Sonapur was showcased at the Gotham Film Market and received support from Sundance.

Aqsa is a Sundance Building Bridges Fellow and a recipient of the Pillars Artist Fellowship, a program founded by Riz Ahmed. In addition to her narrative work, she directs commercials and branded films.
